How long is a “long time”…. And how do you know for certain that it hasn’t defecated? Is it eating & moving about normally.?
Yes a tortoise can die from not pooping. Being constipated leads to them not eating.
I've found the best way to get them cleaned out is to put them in a tub of water (your bathtub works well) and leave them in there to scramble around trying to get out. Keep checking on him to make sure he's not getting into trouble, but an hour isn't too long.
