So im based in the UK and temps have seemed to have dropped a lot recently. His warm side is staying as it should which he is taking full advantage off!

However I noticed when waking up this morning his temps in his tank went down to 18 degrees celsius and thinking its time to get a ceramic heat emitter.

Hes in a 4ft vivarium with his uvb bulb in the centre at the top. Where would be the best placement for a ceramic heat emitter and what would be the full set up I need for it? Such as holder and anything else.

Ive also noticed where its gotten colder ive had to slightly turn his thermostat temps up (dimming thermostat) and this is affecting the humidity so was wondering if anyone can help me with this? The humidity was stable around 84 and is now dropping into the 70s

Thanks! 🐢

In most cases, the middle of the enclosure is the best placement for a CHE. For the CHE you want a large, wide dome (at least 25 cm, not deep set) with a ceramic fittings. Ceramic fittings is really important for fire safety. This can be one made for reptiles or a brooder lamp. The best type of thermostat for a CHE seems to be an on/off thermostat.

Maybe @Littleredfootbigredheart can point out some UK specific product names or links to products?

I forget, is your set up open top? What is the dimming thermostat hooked up to? Basking lamp?

Thank you for all of that! My setup is a vivarium so closed top, we have a bulb holder screwed onto the top which then the wire is connected to the dimming thermostat! (Basking bulb)

Hello! So for ceramic placement I’d mount it in the middle, second that about the ceramic fitting, with how well made our viv is, we’ve not personally had to use domes, it can be tricky finding 10inch ones here, so aim for at least 8”.

Ideally your basking light works best off of a dimmer, it’s acting as your ‘sun’ so you don’t want it dimming on&off all day, it can be better finding the correct watt and height to create the desired basking temperature underneath, I understand you can’t adjust the height with yours, so if you feel more comfortable with a dimmer, I understand, just thought I’d mention it.

You’ll need either an on&off thermostat, or a pulse(slightly more sophisticated but the on&off work fine) thermostat for the ceramic, place the probe in the ‘coolest’ corner.

We use the pro rep brand ceramics and fittings, they sell them on swell reptiles I believe, I’d get a 100w one🐢💚

Hi! Just seen this thread and been thinking myself, we currently have a heat lamp and Acradia T5, would you also recommend getting the heat emitter too? So all three or just change for the Arcadia and heat emitter? Don’t know if it would get too hot with all three. Day temps are currently 32-34c in his warm side and 22-24c in the cool side. @Littleredfootbigredheart ✨🐢🖤

Ceramics do definitely come in during the colder weather, my friends with temperate species that they choose not to brumate, definitely rely on them during winter, it all depends what your levels are saying, they sound ok currently, but if you notice him becoming sluggish, it wouldn’t hurt.

You wouldn’t have to worry about it getting too hot with the ceramic in there, if it’s not needed, the thermostat it’d run on would keep it switched off🐢💚
