I recently purchased a coil UVB bulb, then returned it when I heard it was bad for tort's eyes. So I replaced it, with what I believe to be a differently shaped coil bulb, and I can't return it.

So after I destroy this new bulb out of anger and spite, I will need to replace it. I've been told to get a 100watt zoo med powersun bulb. It's for a 2 month old Russian. Does anyone have recommendations of preferred bulbs?

From what I gather, the above would be better for a Russian then a mvb.

I use a fluorescent strip light (ZooMed Repti-Sun) for illumination and UVA/UVB radiation. For basking, I use a CHE.

Hi GTT, can you tell me what UVB you use for your strip light? I see recommendations for both 5.0 and 10.0 for Russian Tortoises posted on the web. I wanted to ask here for your opinion on which one I should buy.

I use the 10.0 UVB ZooMed Repti-Sun. It's a little over a foot from the substrate, so I wanted them to get the stronger dose to mimic sunlight a bit better. In my experience, the ZooMed Repti-Sun 10.0 is the best at mimicking sunlight for open-habitat tortoises. I think it's too bright for a forest tortoise, but it's good for a desert and grassland tortoise like the Russian. :)

I tried the ExoTerra Repti-Glo 10.0, but the bluish light appeared to have a negative effect on my Russians. Either the color freaked them out, or the radiation hurt their eyes, or both. Either way, they hardly emerged for the two weeks I used it. When I switched back to my usual ZooMed Repti-Sun 10.0, they resumed their normal behavior (please see the thread, "Fluorescent strip lights").
