Coconut Coir Issues

1. It's messy.
2. Can't grow plants besides cactus.
3. Strange smell after being misted almost smells stagnant.

Anyways, my biggest complaint is now that Ive switched I can't grow anything inside his tub. Everything died. I thought about putting some soil underneath the coconut coir but not sure if that would work. If so what's the point of using it in the first place?!

Doesn't molds, hold humidity...You can boil it, it will probably remove the smell. Soil molds more easily but I think it's still a good option, maybe just clean it more often. I use a mix of reptibark and organic soil.
