My Russian tortoises have been mating excessively everyday lately- how successful is it for Russian Tortoises to conceive? Is it hard or fairly easy?

It's fairly easy, but folks in the UK seem to be better at it than us here in the U.S.

Conditions have to be right for the female to lay her eggs. And it works better if they are set up outside.

She gets a break no worries.:) How do I know if the condition is right for HER? I have three dogs so outside is def not the best choice esp in Texas with snakes and cats and dogs... They have the special bulb for indoor T's, so what else to know if it's a good environment?

The way to know if conditions are right for her is when you get fertile eggs.

What sort of indoor light are you using? Are you aware the the coil bulbs sold at the pet stores can burn their eyes?

Lots of people in TX have dogs and keep their russians outside. You just have to do it in the right place and make a proper enclosure. Outside IS the best choice, but you must do it safely in regards to escape, temperatures and predators, including dogs.

How large is your indoor enclosure and do your tortoises live together full time, or do they have their own enclosures? Can we see a pic or two?

The bulb is not coiled, it is a mercury vapor UVB light, their enclosure is fairly large I can measure it when I get home, they have lived together for a little over a year, their is a male and female, their vet guessed their were about 4-5 years old (for both). They have always been indoor... One of the dogs already try to attack them so I don't put them outside often...
