Does my tortoise need a place to sleep that is covered or will she just bury herself?

Yes a covered sleeping spot would be best. Have at least 1 for her.
I use flower pots turned on their sides for mine. I am going to Walmart tomorrow to buy those black dish tubs that I'm gonna flip upside down and cut a door into. I have sulcatas, so I want to provide a humid hide for them
Other inexpensive options: half logs, or large PVC pipes cut in half. Or just bury it into the substrate so it stays still and they can crawl into it and take a nap [GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]
