This guy is Hopie, he was the only survivor of his clutch and was in the ground for over thirty days until we found the nest. One of our females laid eggs and we missed her. The next day we dug, dug, and dug and could locate the nest. We thought she did lay. Well over thirty days later we dug the site again because she did not lay and we for sure missed her. After nine hours of cautious digging, we located the nest and collected all 14 eggs. They were placed inside an incubator and we hoped for the best. June 4th one piped and hatched out, Hopie. Four others ended up being verified as dead and undeveloped. He was very wrinkled when hatched, however turned out handsome, a male for sure. Anyway Hopie is one of those special guys that will live at our program for ever, just because he is special!
