Is orchard hay better than alfalfa hay or vice versa for a sulcata?
I think I remember reading somewhere that the alfalfa hay was too high in protein. Might have read it on this forum somewhere.

Alfalfa is too stemmy and too high in protein for my liking. I prefer orchard grass hay and bermuda hay. I grow a little bit of fresh alfalfa to feed mine, but its a very small percentage of their diet. Grass hay is probably 50-75% of their diet.

Like Tom, I grow some alfalfa for my sulcata to graze on. When the stems get thick he tends to avoid it. Mostly I feed orchard grass hay mixed with some Teff hay. Teff has stems like Timothy, but not as thick, and much more palatable for my sulcata. Plus, since the in-laws feed Teff to their horses, I get it for free.
