I got a digital kitchen scale at Target for about $25. I don't think the brand matters too much on these. I'd get something that measures in whole grams. Mine does up to 2,000 grams. Also get one that does ounces (most do) so you can weigh postage--I'm surprised how often we use ours. Also pick up some digital calipers if you want to go pro on this. Mine were under $15 at Harbor Freight. Trevor's growth is all done up pretty in Excel. :)

Ditto. They are all close enough for our purposes. I paid $175 for a fancy bird scale that comes with a perch and a flat surface, before I knew better.

That's similar to mine. Mine was $25 and either from Target or Meijer.
I've been slacking on the weighing lately though :p I have his measurements in an Excel spreadsheet also.

I want a digital caliper soo badly! That is on my list of things to buy :)
