Dimmer sockets

I have seen dimmer sockets mentioned a couple of times, now I just can't find WHERE they were mentioned Where are you guys buying yours? Do they just screw into the clamp lamp socket, and the bulb screws into the dimmer socket? Is there a full range of dimming, or is it like the "three-way" type?

I am thinking that they might be nice to have for summer-night-times.

Its made by zoomed, and i had one from lowes, but cant find it online anywhere. The zoomed one works pretty good.

So, is that the only type? I don't want to go out and buy whole clamp lamps if I don't have to, is there any socket that I can just screw into what I already have?

Here is one that you would plug your light in and dim it with the slider. Mine was a knob but mine was older, looks like mostly switches now. I know lowes and homedepot have them, They might even have more styles in the stores.

YES! That is more like what I was thinking, and a bit cheaper than the clamp lamp (I have sooooo many of the things, I do NOT want to buy more unless I have to.)

You can hook anything up to them, but i use mine for a ceramic heater. I have a 150watt ceramic and depending on how hot it is in the house i dim it up and down, to keep the enclosure at the right temps. It also makes it so you can buy the bigger bulb and know you have enough power, because you can always dim down but if you dont have a big enough bulb you cant go up..

What are you going to be hooking up?

150w red heat bulb that I use for night time, but I won't need it to be full strength come summer.
