Do they hibernate?

I can't stop thinking if it was something I did that caused my littlefoot to pass, or if he was just doomed from the beginning. But one thing I am wondering, would it have been a good idea if I had soil as the substrate, that I watered daily? Perhaps with grass growth? That would have kept the moisture in and might be comparable to their natural habitat, wouldn't it?

I do miss my little guy so much, this week has been very difficult! A million thoughts running through my head wondering if it was my fault. If it was the stress of the injections, the reaction to the injections. Was the temperature gradient not good enough? Was he not eating enough? Was the hydration that I provided not enough? These are all questions I keep asking myself :(

Thanks again to everybody here.

I'm so sorry for your loss, @Linah4 .

Please don't beat yourself up, or try to figure out if it was your fault or just nature. At this point it is more beneficial for you and future tortoises if you choose to look forward: The first and most important step to raising a healthy baby tortoise is to get one from a good breeder. There are quite a few folks on this page who sell their babies... getting one that is well-started, preferably hot/humid, will be well worth it, because those little buggers will just thrive the heck out of things. Also, there is a really good care sheet that Tom wrote about raising baby leopard tortoises. Best of luck to you!
