Hi all

Do torts have feeling in there carapace or do they just feel pressure?
I stroke my torts shell regular, I never restrict them from walking away, When I tickle there rear 3 scutes they wiggle there bums. Is this because they enjoy it or because they want to scratch it. Quite often I see them scratching there rear end of the shell on vertical logs I have in there tort table. I have some torts that come up to me on the floor and just sit between my legs, I stroke them. Is this what they want. Either way I like stoking them. :)

The cat is like  where's my stroke:(. Only kidding we don,t neglect any pets. ;)

I actually cringe when I look back at that and see how poor her enclosure was. Pet shop bowls and substrate and all... How much ive learnt in such a short time thanks to this forum :)

Actually, I think when they move back and forth like that, they are not liking it. When mine seem to like it, they stand up tall and very still, when they do the hoochie, koochie, I take it as them not liking it.

So what you are saying is we are irritating them, which causes them to imitate scratching on say a log.
" Hoochie, koochie". love that. Has yours every put her left leg in then her left leg out in out in out and . OK that's enough of that. :)

I don't know that we are, but yes, I think we are. When mine do the hoochie koochie against a log or other things they have ran into, they do it like they are irritated by the object, pee-d off. I have seen them get stuck under a lawn chair and they do the dance and they do it as if they are trying to destroy the chair.
If they start putting one leg in and one leg out, I will be famous and making millions:p:D

hootchie kootchie, are usually ( not always) ladies of dubious moral virtues.
I do believe it is irritating, but one can't say for sure 100 percent, until the first tortoise yells at us to stop.

I rub or scratch the back of my sulcata's shell and he almost always wiggles. Does that hoochie, coochie. I have been told that he thinks he is being mounted and is trying to get away. Sometimes he backs into me while he wiggles. When he backs up like that I do believe that to be a defensive maneuver.
