A few months ago, one of my red foots escaped their pen, and despite extensive search attempts and reward posters, we have not found her. My other one seems to be depressed. She just isn't herself, I know that sounds crazy. I know in the wild they are solitary, but my girls were together together since they were hatchlings. Should I get another red foot for her?

Most tortoises prefer to be alone in their territory, however, redfooted tortoises get along quite well in groups, and seem to enjoy the company of others of their species.

No, not necessarily....I would hold off and just let the tort settle in...also, perhaps there may be some human emotions being seen on the tortoise....?

I'd would either leave her alone or get two or more. Even with redfoots, pairs can sometimes be problematic. Groups usually fare much better.

Thanks for the advice! I think I'll wait and let her adjust.
