Are you worried? Not really sure by you thread. If you think he may be sick, please give us a lot more info about what he is doing, eat or not, runny nose or eyes, etc. Also some info on your set-up, temps, humidity, substrate, etc.

He's been really active until this evening, being very mischievous but then wouldn't eat this evening. Temperature has been the same as usual, enjoyed his usual bath - everything else normal. He's started rubbing his face with this front legs and retracting his head into his shell. He's sneezing but his nose looks clear and his breathing seems normal...I'm a tortoise novice - and really worried :-(

If he's rubbing his face and sneezing, there might be something in his nose.

Runny nose and eyes, and wheezing, are cause for concern. He may just have the sneezies. Check his eyes for a couple days and see if that's ok.

As Yvonne said...likely something ticked his nose. Sneezing every once in awhile is not a panic thing...:D

I'd give it some time before you panic. Side note: DH just makes me think of the bump/nest/knot
