So I am wanting to redo my eastern box turtle enclosure because these weeds have taken over. So I am going to pull all of them up and re plant the enclosure. My question is how can I keep the weeds from coming up so quickly again.

I put 2 layers of newspaper, in my veggie boxes, before toping it with soil. It's biodegradable, environmentally safe, non-toxic. And it takes 2 yrs for it to completely fall apart, which is the length of time it takes to suffocate any weeds or grass roots. Works great!

Will they be able to bury down through it.

I put over a foot of top soil on it. I'm not sure how big your torts are and how deep bury, so you'd just have to add as much as you think they need.

I love this place! I come on here to talk about how cool it is that I am actually trying to grow what most consider weeeds and get to read about people trying to get rid of them. LOL.... I grow weeds for my Tortoises that I start in my box turtle habitat. I mow with scissors, wash and dry and have a great supply of tort food and a pretty turt pen.

I put creeping Jenny in and it spreads and there are no weeds. The BT's can walk over it and it doesn't die.

Very cool idea jabuticaba.. I'm gonna remember that.

Tks, but I can't take credit for it. It's a gardner trick. Not that I am one...[GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]

Beautiful picture and a gorgeous box turtle.

Can you please tell me the name of some of the plants you have in your enclosure? THANK YOU!
