I read some terrible things online about this brand of uvb bulb and of course I went and checked which one I was using; it was the same Dang one. Figures. The articles were all from around 2007. I'm wondering if the issues have been resolved with it or if they are still burning pet's eyes? Anyone have an update?

Is yours the tube or the coiled bulb? The coiled bulbs are the ones people have had/do have issues with.

Stay away from any of coil bulbs, use a tube bulb, or a reptisun bulb.
