Turn your UVB lamp off completely. Your tort will be fine without it for a few days while you organise a replacement.

The distance for the tube bulbs is normally printed on the packaging
It's on order. The local reptile store is out. It will get here on Monday. Sometimes i get packages on Sunday. Long tube uvb fluorescent and the fixture.

The new uvb bulbs should arrive Monday. Meanwhile, my leopards spend time outside in the sun for a couple of hours. I never leave them alone; there are so many predators, even in the suburbs. They get a soak before they go back in, and when they do, they eat some more. They're now 7 months old.20180701_autumn sage and shelly and rambo.jpg .

I finally got the hood fixture. It came with the bulb, a T5 high output. The manual said to keep a minimum 6 inch distance between the light and your reptile. Let me know if this isn't what I should have. The manual also said to replace the bulb every 12 months, but I've heard it should be 6 months. 20180703_152203 terrarium hood t5ho fixture.jpg 20180703_152146 terrarium hood reptisun t5ho.jpg

Looks good to me. Most bulbs will last a year but unless you have a UV meter you have no way to be sure. If they’re getting outdoor time you’re good.

Thank you. My Leopard Tortoises seem to be good with the new bulb :)
Excellent news :)

The tube UVB output lasts quite a while, but without a meter you cannot tell. It's the Mercury Vapor Bulbs that stop giving out UVB long before they blow and stop giving out heat. You should be fine replacing at 12 months.
