This is Mr. Turtle. She is 4 years old, weighs 5lbs and is 9" from front to back. She originally came from a pet shop in Southern California as a hatchling, and has lived the past year in Coarsegold, California. The tortoise was originally purchased by a young man and when he went away to college he gave the tortoise to his folks. They knew nothing about caring for a sulcata. The tortoise was fed pellets the first three years of her life, but was switched to greens when she was given to the folks. Last year she suffered a prolapsed rectum, which has been fixed, and at that time the vet said the tortoise is female. If you would like to adopt Mr. Turtle, there is no fee, however I will need to see the area where Mr. Turtle is to be kept. I have to be sure that the tortoise is going to live in a safe place with people who know how to care for her. So, to that end, you have to live in the Central Valley of California...around Fresno.

Hi. I do not know if we are close enough for your liking but we live
in concord and my wife is interested in your female. We have a male (Bob)
we have had for 12 years. We weighed him last year at 88 pounds. We have
a large lot and let him roam about most of the year in our backyard (about 50' x90'). We have an heated storage shed that is his "home" that he stays in at night. Anyway, we understand your concerns as these "beasts" are a huge responsibility. Again, we feel we are up to the challenge if it is a female. Males are poor companions (I do not need to explain to you what they do to each other) We have a very good reptile vet close by and some wonderful resources to call on (are you familiar with the East Bay Vivarium?) Anyway, thanks

If yours is that big.. then the female yvonne is trying to find a home for.. might be too small to house with him.. and what will you do with eggs?

Without even talking to Yvonne I can tell you that she won't adopt a female Sulcata to anyone who has a male. But if she's tired of having to house that female she *may* adopt to you with your promise of no breeding or raising of babies. It will be interesting to see if she wants to make me look bad after my prediction or not....:p

I'm pretty sure Mr. Turtle will be going to a new home in the near future. We're still emailing back and forth.

hi. about weighing Bob, i weighed myself and then picked him up and weighed us both. and that picture is old.To pick up Bob I have to stand over him, legs spread accross over his back and crouch down grabbing each side and carefully lift using my legs. Nowadays I usually have my son move him if needed , since he(my son) now is bigger than me.

Mr. Turtle is no longer available. She was picked up today and has gone to her new forever home. Thanks to all of you who responded.
