Please share your favorite box turtle food recipes. I would like to start prepping meals for my turtle to make sure it’s getting a balanced diet each meal instead of winging it ( I do have the info from sandy barnett and box turtle facts)

I know some are fastidious over their turtles diet but I admit that I'm not one of them. I just make lots of stuff available to Matt during the course of the week. He gets egg shells, worms, slugs, veggies and fruits, nightcrawlers from the local bait store along with anything else we conjure up for him. He seems to like it when Kerry is dieting, he gets more spinach than Popeye!

When he's indoors for the winter, I remove food at night. We don't like bugs.

I agree with Jeff. Box turtles are omnivores. Offer a wide variety of bugs, berries, a little protein like chicken heart, etc.

You can also make a box turtle mash. Something I'd feed once a week. It can include a protein, calcium powder, an egg with shell to act as a binder, a berry, and a green such as dandelion, or mustard. All mashed together like a canned dog food.

Mine is a baby so I want to get him off to a good start, he isn’t technically a box turtle but care is identical according to every breeder and resource I have checked

DD above has shown up here consistently with really healthy, bright hatchlings so you might want to follow his lead. He can elaborate but he raises them very wet.

Btw- pics are always nice but that's a beautiful species!

I’m doing something like this, greens , insects, veggies, fruits. I’ve been debating a pellet as well but I’m not sure

Tiny turtle said no thanks on the pictures lol. I know this set up isn’t perfect but I just upgraded my leopard gecko so I gave the turtle her old 36x18x12. Definitely need to add some more climbing things

When do you move yours from fully aquatic? And how long can they be in something like a 36x18x12? I know it’s not a long term enclosure by any means

I do it from when they hatch to the following spring; as I keep mine outdoors, but it's not a 100% necessary long as the animal is hydrated and has a humid environment.

Around here this little one can only be out may-September ish so I want to make sure any indoor enclosure is suitable as well. Want to plan ahead as much as possible and make space for something larger
