Found Turtle, maybe shell rot or broken shell?

Hi all! I found a young 3 toed box turtle in my driveway today! Naturally I named him Reggie and built a temporary home for him in my backyard after I noticed his shell…..it looks really chipped. I know absolutely nothing about owning a turtle but want to make him comfortable and happy! If anyone could give me tips and tricks on how I can help him that would be great. Also any tips for what they like in enclosures! Anything helps. I attached photos of Reggie and his shell. Is it broken or shell rot?

Nope. Just a box turtle that survived a traumatic injury. Maybe a dog or raccoon. Looks like it healed well.

I agree, looks like some animal has tried to eat that turtle.

First of all, you try to find if anyone in your neighborhood has lost a turtle. Then you check to see if they are native to your area. If no one has lost a turtle and if they are not native, THEN you can think about keeping it. If they ARE native, it would be best to put it back outside where you found it.

Totally agree with Yvonne. Don't keep it if it's native. Never take from the wild unless it needs medical help. This turtle although shell damage, seems to have healed.
