My juvenile DT, who is preparing for brumation, was very active today, which reached 84 degrees here. We have taken him off food since last Saturday. Today I found him sitting in a pile of ashes in our outdoor fireplace, chowing down. The ash was from camphor tree wood. Will this ash harm him? Does it mean he needs a certain nutrient? Should we resume offering food?

They are like babies they will put anything in there mouth . I think he will be fine but give him a good soak just so he can wash it down and pass it .

If memory serves me...is this the tort that likes hunkering down under camphor tree cuttings? I think he is simply a camphor crack baby....you may need to wean him :p

If you are going to support brumation this winter then I would not resume supplemental food offerings..

Hah! Angela, you know him so well. Perhaps we should stage a camphor tree intervention.

At any rate, soaked him and he's bopping along as normal so I'm gonna assume he'll be fine.
