hi! I’m looking to start my two Sulcatas on hay due to the availability in my area. I know you prefer orchard grass hay but will other grass hays work? If so what kind?

Bermuda grass hay is good too.

Timothy is too stemmy. I wouldn't use alfalfa.

What size sulcata are we talking about?

I usually don't start them on hay until they reach about 12". Hay is not a suitable food for the little one.
Ok, no hay for the baby. Would the older one be ok? I wouldn’t completely do her on it.

If the older one will eat, it will do no harm. Just be sure to ramp up the soaks and hydration with the new dry food. I like to feed more spineless opuntia pads along with the hay. The combo works well for me. Opuntia is high in water content and very slimy/slippery. I think it helps to keep them hydrated and keep the contents of the GI tract moving.
