My name is Wilda. I just inherited my daughter's sulcata tortoises. They are 3 yrs old. Their names are Ricky and Lucy. Lucy's shell is 18" long. Ricky's shell is 14" long. She felt they outgrew their 5'x10' desert landscape area outside and would enjoy my fenced in grassy area that is 15'x20'. They are really enjoying their new home. Don't know how to post pics on here. Thank you for welcomi

Hello, Wilda and a very warm welcome to Tortoise Forum to you,Ricky and Lucy.
Your pics are just fine.
Tortoises grow at different rates, but as long as they keep putting on weight and not loosing any, it should be good.
As you're bound to already know, they are eating machines, so keep feeding them a nice varied diet.
Have a look at http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/african-spurred-tortoise-sulcata-care-sheet.52524/
and http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/african-spurred-tortoise-sulcata-care-sheet.52524/
and also http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/how-to-raise-a-healthy-sulcata-or-leopard-version-2-0.79895/
for lots of stuff you may, or may not, know.
Also keeping two together, even in a big area, is a risk, torts don't like each other or require friends and may fight, bully, injure or even kill each other in the future. If you have a female and a male he may bother her to death as they get older, if you see what i mean.
Separate enclosures may be necessary for the future of your tortoises.
They can sometimes work in groups but never in pairs.

I have noticed. In the process of blocking vie to the outside on the 2 picket fence sides. The other two walls are cement block walls. Thank you for the advice. Are they good sizes for being 3 yrs old?
I agree as long as they are eating your doing good don't rush them !

The males tend to be more aggressive. I say tend to , because there are exceptions. Also, even in groups there is sometimes one who still Rams & fights another. It's not a sure thing for peace.
Keep in mind in the tortoise world size matters. If you do find another it should be as close to size of the other two as possible.

One male and multiple females in a large enclosure has to be a better bet than two or more males together (generally).

Hi Wilda, and welcome to the Forum!

Don't get another tortoise unless you have a big enough piece of property that you can fence it off to add another habitat. You may have fighting and have to separate them, and you may not.

As of right now, Lucy is about4" longer than Ricky and she is bolder. I now feed them separately because she will go after his food when she is done. I stared to feed him more than her when I give them veggies even though they have all the grass to eat from. If the female is the bolder one, should i still consider getting a third tort? Of course, their size. Thanks again.

They are now in a grassy area that's pretty large 15'x20' which is just 1/3 of the entire yard. The rest is paved and some dirt. Thank you for your advice. Don't know if i should get a third or not. The female is 4" longer n she is bolder than the male. Thanks again.
