growing shell or pyramiding?

i have had my redfoot hatchling for a few months now. how do i tell the difference between a growing shell and one that is pyramiding? scared also about a vet visit, but more worried about baby. please help

The new growth in between the scutes will be level and not raising up at an upwards angle. This is what we refer to as "smooth" new growth.

Just provide your tortoise with the humidity it requires and the smooth growth will follow. Pyramiding is not a death sentence. I have several pretty badly pyramided tortoises and they're healthy and happy.

thanks! that actually sounds like them exactly. We will still make the vet visit, but i will be glued to this forum. I appreciate and enjoy all the responses. So good to know there are great tort owners and they are so willing to help. Thanks to all.
