I'm concerned that my tortoise is growing too fast. He has a big appetite, I feed him once-twice daily, with the reptivite supplement sprinkled on roughly every other day. Hes over doubled in size since i got him (5 months ago). what do you think?

They will all grow at different rates, double the size in that amount of time actually seems normal to me.

Do you have a side shot of the tortoise? He looks very nice.

He looks great to me. I'd also love to know the weights in grams. That will give us a much better idea.

Vitamins every other day seems like a lot to me. If its working for you, no reason to stop. Do you ever use plain calcium instead of the vitamins?

I usually feed my babies twice a day too.

Your little tortoise is beautiful. Don't worry that he's growing too fast. He looks great. Some of them just do grow fast. We had a post a couple days ago and her desert tortoise looked to be full grown. It was a post about the tortoise showing its penis if you'd like to look for it. The tortoise was only 3 years old. It was huge for 3 yrs. but looked perfectly healthy.

We always say that slow growth is best, but if you're not doing anything to accelerate the growth, its just natural for that particular tortoise. Maybe his ancestors came from a part of the desert where food was scarce for most of the year and they evolved to get big faster than normal...who knows.

Nice job with him. Do you mind sharing a little about how you have kept him? Humidity levels, frequency of soaking, etc....

Looks nice and smooth, I wouldn't worry to much about it, you might give it a bad body image :)
