Hey everyone I have a very young sulcata tortoise and I'm wondering what the signs are of a healthy shell? And what are growth lines? I'm going to post a couple pictures and if anyone can tell me if they see any new growth starting I would really appreciate it!
On my youngish ( 3 yo ) Sulcata , his growth lines are dark brown , on the Aldabra they come in light gray , on Leopards some are almost pure white and some are tan.
For me , I gauge growth with a monthly weight in
Easy to know then.
You can see growth lines around each of the scutes on your tortoise as more shell material is added as the tortoise grows.
They look like tree rings in some respects, but are of no help in determining age.
The new growth is extra sensitive as it grows and hardens.
Your tortoise looks perfectly normal to me.
