Heat Rock?

Hi,

I currently have a bunch of rocks underneath the basking light. They aren't an even surface and I'm worried my Russian isn't gaining enough heat from the bottom up. Do people use heat rocks for tortoises? Not electric. A flat surface that attracts heat.

Yes, quite a few of us position a flat rock under the light.

I do. I get slate or flagstone pieces and put them directly under my basking lamps. Makes it easy to check your basking temp too. And it helps keep their nails trimmed.

I would not recommend and "hot rock" for any reptile.

I also have flat rocks under my light, but I was told nothing electric as well. :)

We've got the NatGeo Mayan Basking Dish for our redfoot, and I worry that the top gets too hot for her, since she rarely basks on top of it. She kind of tucks herself sideways between the top step and the wall of the tank. Opinions?

I have been informed that I was wrong and she does, in fact, hang out on top of the basking platform for most of the day while I'm at work. Daddypanic withdrawn.
