I have an African spur thigh and she is about 3 and a half years old. Her name is slider and she is sick right now. That is how I stumbled on this website, looking for advice on what to do. She has a respiratory infection. She has had her first shot of antibiotic today and I'm really hoping she will be ok.

Welcome, Jody!

Get well soon, Slider.

Where are you from? Any pics to show us? :)

Hi Jody:

Welcome to the Tortoise Forum!!

I'm assuming your name is "Jody," right?

In case you didn't already know, its a good idea to raise your temperature for the tortoise while it is taking the antibiotics. Also, soak every day in warm water.

For anyone else reading this thread - "African spur thigh" is really a Geochelone sulcata, or an African spurred tortoise. The moniker "spur thighed tortoise" is more usually given to a type of Greek tortoise.

Hello and welcome. Did your vet tell you to warm him up? Where abouts are you?
