Hi, I'm completely new to owning a tortoise, just got mine today, Marginated tortoise and named him Lyle.

He has eaten on his first day...
I have changed his water bowl to the lid from a takeaway box as the bowl I got from the pet store seemed to high and I was worried he wouldn't get anything from it...

Now the troubling part, he has buried himself and although I know where he is I can't actually see him... Should I be worried???

Thanks for all the help I've already had from these forums!!! :D

Welcome to the Forum!

No worries. Some tortoises really like to bury themselves.

I would dig him up every morning and place him in front of the food.

Welcome!
Sounds like your tort is just settling in.

When I first brought my boy home he stayed near his hides for a few weeks before he started to adventure.

Welcome to the wonderful world of torts! Haha! Burrowing is very common especially for youngsters. As long as it surfaces each day to bask and eat and its eyes are clear and bright then dont worry too much.

Until they know you as the food god or goddess, they are unsure of things. You may want to eat him/her. Once they acclimate and have a routine and feel safe, depending on individual personality, they come out of their shell, so to speak. Welcome to the forum! Lots of lovely keepers from the UK, yay! : )
