HELP !!!! HEATING

hello, my ceramic heating bulb has melted the wiring in the fixing. i have had it over a year and it went today, i went to were i brought it and he assures me that its normal and i should cut off the wire and re-wire the bulb fitting every 10-12 months this really don't sound rite? what are your experiences with these? i think its just the reptile guy covering up some dodgy wiring.

help please...

You're correct, this is not right. I have some CHE's (ceramic heat emitter) that are about 20 years old, and are still working as they were meant to be.

They only cost about $25 or so, and you've gotten a year's worth of use out of it, probably past any waranty on it anyway, so just toss it and buy a new one.

i wouldn't risk it considering the price of the bulb versus a house fire....


if you don't already, make sure to use a ceramic fixture as well. although if you brought it to a hardware store i guess you would have the correct equipment....hopefully, ha

A che does not have wiring you can cut . So I'm thinking the op is talking about the fixture itself . All fixtures are made to a wattage rating . So if you are using a 150 watt che in a fixture that has a 100 watt rating this is what happens the wire gets to hot and burns up . If you are using a 150 watt che I would go with a 200 watt fixture so this does not happen.

help please...

the bulb is fine but after having a friend look at it it looks like its dodgy wiring.
