So a friend of mine reached out to me to help her figure out what species this turtle/tortoise is and I'm at a loss...

The pictures are from the "breeder/owner" who was going to give one to her and she would like to know what in the world it is so it can be cared for properly.

Sorry if this should be posted elsewhere.

It IS a box turtle, however, I don't think it's a three toe. They are bone color on the plastron with no design/markings, and this one has plastron markings.

I agree Yvonne, based on plastron pattern I'm thinking eastern box turtle or gulf coast box turtle and looking at the carapace and skin with conservative markings and large flaring rear marginal scutes, I'm going with gulf coast box turtle (Terrapene carolina major).

I've seen 3 toed with some markings on the plastron. Eastern plastron are usually darker than this. How many toes on back feet?
