RE: Need Advise with injury!

I cringed seeing that. Looks SOO painful.

Clean it the best you can and try to keep her away from flies and dirt. She might lose it, but it should grow back. You may need to keep her in a separate tub on paper towels until it heals over. Try peroxide to wash the debris away and then some neosporin.

Its probably quite painful. You could take her to the vet to have it removed, that way it would heal faster, and she would be out of pain sooner, or you can just let nature take it course and it will fall off on its own (or even heal at that angle).

Unfortunately, there ARE other animals around to harm her. Your other Russians. They can be very combative and I have seen worse injuries caused by fights. She also could have done it trying to scale the walls of the enclosure.

Well shes on her way to recovery! I soaked her in warm water for about 20 minutes gave a little tug to it and the whole nail came off like it was nothing, it just popped out! I put some neosporin on it all around and put her in the same spot she was resting in earlier I really think she feels better! I just know it! Thanks every one, ill keep you up dated on her status Bye. Anthony. (nothing like having supportive friends!) I like that! :)

I agree, it could have been other torts, digging or climbing. Maybe just a "stubbed toe". They may not be fast, but they truly have a lot of muscle.

Just keep in mind....you will want to keep flies away from the open sore and make sure it stays really clean...you may want to flush it with an antiseptic flush :}

I'm always afraid that's going to happen with my little guys, too. Their long claws are great for digging, and sturdy even when climbing. But I suspect your tortoise got her claw caught on something, where it got hyper-extended and broke. Looks pretty deep. I would take her to the doctor.
