I bought Hudson one of those hideaway logs from petsmart the other day and have had it on the floor so when he comes out to walk around the apt he can check it out. He's gone in a couple of times with some prompting but today he went right up to it and started biting it. Is this normal or should i take it away?? Pic attached. I noticed some notches in my log too, after reading your article. They must've been from a while ago. Maybe Hudson's just curious of it. My Bowser tries to eat anything that slightly resembles food, so I wouldn't worry.

I wouldn't let him eat it. It would appear to be fir, and fir produces hair like splinters that easily get in eyes and mucus membrane and is a nasty irritant. .

When I put a new one in any of the enclosures they have a nibble. I usually give them a good rub to get any loose bits off then roll it around in the substrate a bit to make it smell less alien, seems to work for mine :)
