Hi, we were given this tortoise and told it was a Herman but I am wondering if it’s something else.
She has triangular markings under (all in pairs) and no split in her last shell🤔

I will take some pictures of her back and belly later and upload as well.

Would be good to know what we have here.

That was my guess as well, mostly due to the color underneath but also the missing gap in last shell🤔

A very warm welcome to the forum, @Bb1 .

Please give your tortoise a soak in lukewarm water every day: it seems that he/she is pyramiding. Read the care sheets and do not hesitate to ask questions.

Thank you, we do give her a soak every day. She just moved here e few months ago and when she got her is did not lift up on her back legs and was very slow and lethargic. The pyramiding I think has stopped but will not go away I heard. She is now very active, curious and social😊

Welcome. Tortoises take time to adapt to a new environment.

Correct: the pyramiding will not go away, but at least it has stopped as far as your tortoise is concerned. Glad to hear he/she is active. Any pics of his/her enclosure?

Well after figuring out we don’t have a western hermann like we were told and reading the care sheet I now need to do some changes to the outdoor area. It is too grassy at the moment And we will need to make it bigger I think. At the moment it’s 3 meter long and 1 meter wide.

The tortoise is in a normal tortoise table inside so that needs to be altered as well at some point. As it’s summer (live in the uk) the tortoise is outside all day and only taken in at night at the moment (only as I don’t feel safe yet leaving him/her outside over night).

Here is some photos I had on my phone. Not all of it. It’s also just been a few months so not perfect yet (and now changing everything anyway) still learning what plants are ok and so on and have been a bit scared of what to put in. Hopefully it will get easier now that we know what we have at least.
I know taking over a tortoise with only some knowledge about them is not the best idea but I could just not sit and look at the tortoise not being wanted where it was. So hopefully I will learn to be a great tortoise mum. So happy for this page, a lot of good information here.

Tried to see pics you posted, however I received a somewhat strange message saying: "Content could not be loaded. Please try again later." Don't know why. Sorry about that.

Will try later.
