My torts live in my classroom. During the day they have a basking light but when I leave for the day I turn it off. The classroom gets cold and I am worried they will get cold. They live on coco coir and seem to like burrowing in it. They have an upturned plat pot as a hide. They are eating and pooping so seem settled. Could they eat ill if they are warm during the day and cool at night?
Cheers janet

Could the lights not go on a timer? Or do you have policies at school to save electricity?

They should be warm during the day and have it cooler at night. How cold does it get? They should be fine with it in the low 60s or even a little lower at night. For the day time though they should get about 14 hours of light. If the school allows it having their light on a timer makes everything much easier and consistent for them.

Thanks for replying. I will set up a digital thermometer tonight and report back on temp readings. :)
