i only rinse the excess dirt off before i feed out lettuce, both at work and at home. Other things that i know stores coat with wax-like apples, i soak or scrub it off before feeding(or just feed organic).

A 15 minute soak in a deep cold water bath should both wash them (the deep water lets dirt fall away) and rehydrates them. Dry them well and store them cold and humid and they should last nicely.

I actually don't worry much about actual soil on my tort's food- no matter what, it is cleaner than some of what they would eat in the wild.

I don't usually worry that much about this. I just rinse the lettuce or whatever and then feed it too my Red Foot. I do the same thing to the lettuce I eat.
