Sooooo my James neck looked like it was cracking so I decided to give him a soak. Its easter so I treated him with a little hat and some watermelon in his dish. I'd noticed he was kind of chill lately like sleeping more after he ate but I could be sure. I went to turn off his lights and noticed these...WTF....are these worms? And where are they coming from?

Hello! Are you talking about thin white string on his leg? It looks more like a sprout or root.. Does it move, are there more like this? Have you seen them in his poop?

This was wrapped around his arm at first, my son had pulled it off before I could see but they're some type of worm. I haven't seen any in his poop but they're definitely on or in him somehow. I have had him for like 6 months and he's never been outside or anything.

On the recent picture it's definitely not a sprout.

1. I would dig around substrate to check if these worms come from soil.
2. You can take a poop sample to any nearby vet lab (not necessarily exotics vet) to check for worms eggs or adult specimens. Some tortoises can carry worms for years (e.g. from hatchling age) before they become a problem.

I agree with Alex. The first step is diagnosis. Take a fecal sample to a tortoise vet and figure out exactly what you've got there.

Where did you buy this tortoise?
