Hi everyone, this is Rex's mom, April, speaking.
I just got off the phone with my boyfriend Scott only to receive the worst news that it appears that Rex has passed away. Scott was at work all day and I'm out of town at the time being, and we honestly have no idea how this happened or if Rex is really dead. Scott says that Rex is laying facing the wall with his mouth open, which neither of us have ever seen him do. He only opens his mouth when eating or drinking. Scott says that when he picked Rex up, Rex was very hard and didn't move at all like he would normally do when we'd pick him up. Rex's temperature and humidity have been perfect for a Russian tortoise, and he takes daily soaks, drinking plenty each time. He also has started to eat normally (we were having issues a few weeks ago) but he has a good variety of leafy greens, so he shouldn't be malnourished or dehydrated. Scott told me that there was a strange substance in the middle of Rex's terrarium that did not look like feces, so we're wondering if Rex could have possibly choked while eating and vomited? Is this possible for tortoises to do and could this have caused his death? Please, someone give us some answers! We appreciate it.

Hi April (and Scott):

I'm so sorry this happened. I really doubt any of us will be able to help you. You probably should take the tortoise to a vet for a necropsy. There really is no other way to know what happened to it.
