Hi guys,my friend suggest me to join this forum because he said i can find a lot info and help about tortoise husbandry here.Greet from Malaysia :)
So im planning to built an outdoor enclosure for a juvenile burmese star at my very small backyard. The problem is position of the pen only available at one spot where it is shade at morning and evening but got a fullsun at mid-day.Is it ok to built it there because my star seems refused out of his hide when the temp above 32*C (in here,my mid-day temp is 31- 34*C).Somehow,im just affraid he wont get enough light because of that.Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks !!!!

Hi Malik, and welcome to the Forum!

I think the area you've described sounds just right for your tortoise. Most tortoises come out in the morning, sit in the sun to warm up, then walk around looking for food. After they've eaten for a while, they go back into their hiding place and rest until early evening or late afternoon, when they come back out to eat some more. Just be sure the hiding place is shaded so he doesn't get too hot.

I've noticed that tortoises are more active when they're warm so maybe if he stays in the cool hide all day=inactive. I usually let mine outside in the sunlight and he is inactive maybe 5 minutes then he comes out and plays everywhere

Yep they're indeed just active every early morning and evening but always hide at mid day or night. Then how do you think he would got his nice bask while it is shade at morning and evening?
