Hi everyone! My name is Sarah and I live in Mass, USA. I just took in a 2 year old Russian tortoise from a family that no longer wanted him/her and I couldn't be happier!! I've always wanted a turtle. :-D
The poor guy seemed so quiet at first, I don't think the last owners cared much towards the end.. I mean they were painting his shell but he is doing great now. So much more energy, eating great. I call him a him because I believe it's male, I shall post pictures later for an opinion.

Anyways, excited to be here!

Hi and welcome! So the sorta whitish looking shadings along the lines are from the paint? Sounds like it's a good thing she or he now lives with you. Had you started looking for a tortoise, when you came across this one?

Yea theres some white and purple paint still in the grooves of the shell and im afraid to hurting the poor thing if I try to clean so i'm letting it be, but it broke my heart when they told me they would paint its shell

And yes, I had already started looking into care, got some books, etc when I found out these people no longer wanted the RT, and boy am I glad I did!
