Hooked Tail?

This Hermann was given to me & I am not at all familiar with them. She was Id as a female. I am just curious about this hook at the end of her tail. I am newer to torts but had though I had read that that was a male trait? I could be confused

The hermann tortoise is sometimes called a spur tail tortoise because of the hook on the end. It can get very obvious in a male.
