Ok so I will start by saying hello. I am the keeper of a four and a half inch long russian tortoise named Thor. I was wondering how heavy my tort should be because I don't want him under weight or too fat. So how much should Thor weigh?

He should feel heavy like a rock not hollow and light.

When I first got one of my female Russians she weighed 306 grams at a length of just under 4.5 inches. She felt very light and her legs looked very thin. I considered my purchase a rescue. Three months later she was 400 grams and about 4.75 inches.

Today she weighs in at a rock heavy 672 grams and she is about 6 inches long.

Someone will enter the formula for Tortoise weights based on length and width; but I thought an example might be helpful.

Good luck.

If Thor eats good and gets exercise then a slow but steady weight gain over the next three months should put him on the right track.
