Goodmorning all, Jaden asked me a question, but I didn't find anything on it. How much should you feed a baby sully. I mean like,1/2 cup a day, 1/4 cup a day,ETC.

There is no set formula. I usually give a baby a great big glop*. If he eats it all quickly then next time I give him a bit more. When he leaves a tiny bit and walks away, I know I've given him enough.

* Scientific term for large handful about the same size as the tortoise

Thank you Yvonne. I figured that would be a good way to set the amount. Now, one more question. We see folks on here talking about Spring Mix. Are they talking about the Spring Mix that you would find in a produce department in the bags? Like the one by Dole?

Yes, spring mix is good. I prefer the organic spring mix. Some have spinach in them. I take spinach out. Or just give a few spinach leaves...:)

I agree with all of the above.

My preferred method for "feeding" them is to plant all sorts of stuff in a big outdoor pen and let them run around out there whenever the weather permits. Then they can graze on a bite of this and a bite of that at will.

What would be a minimum low temp to carry him out. I haven't since Jaden got him, because I thought it would be to chilly for him.High today is supposed to be 50*.

Depends on many factors. I sun mine on 60 degree winter days when it's sunny and no wind, but I use big black rubber tubs that get warm in the sun.

For a pen on the ground with stuff growing in it, I prefer temps in the 70s or warmer with a young sulcata.

I look at it like this. In the wild they will most likely have food available to them at all times. I make sure there's always food in the dish. They know when to eat and when to stop. Sometimes it eats it all and I refill, and sometimes there's some left over that I throw out the next morning.

I do this with all my pets actually. I think the notion of pets eating themselves to death is a myth people came up with when they would overfeed their goldfish and they died from polluted water.

I agree with you Tortus. I saw on site about sully's that the woman said feed them every other day. Not even if they look at you with sad eyes. She said it is tough love.
