Hi there,

I bought a Leopard tortoise from a pet shop 6 weeks ago (who I named Milly). I know people say you should only buy from a breeder, and I now understand why as they weren't very helpful. One of the guys at the pet shop thought she was from a 2009 group of hatchlings, which would make her 3 years old. Whereas another told me she was from a 2011 group of hatchlings, which would make her between 1 and 2 years old.

She weighs 521 grams now, when I bought her she was 519 grams.
Her plastron length from top to the bottom of her "v-shape" is 120mm (12cm).

Does anyone have any idea how old she may be? I know they all grow at different rates but 1 year olds and 3 years olds will surely be a lot different in weight?

Thanks for any help.

There is really no way to know. A fast growing one year old could easily be bigger than a slow growing three year old. Genetics play a big part too.
