Hello I have a friend offering to sell me one of his 7 yearlings in my state legally for $800. Wondering if this is fair , I hear they’re very difficult to raise . Should I avoid or consider it again ?

You've had a tough go of it already. Do you want a fun easy species that is hardy and adaptable, or do you want a shy, temperamental species that you have to constantly worry about every detail?

You’re right sometimes you just gotta hear things twice. I’ve spoken to some cherry head breeders and will be selecting one next weekend

There are some precautions you should take before getting another tortoise. You should dispose of anything in the enclosure that cannot be cleaned or is permeable in some way. Substrate, hiding places, plants, some types of dishes. The surfaces of the enclosure should be sanitized. Choosing a the correct disinfectant isn't easy because we don't know how to kill some of the pathogens that infect turtles and tortoises. Bleach isn't necessarily the best option. High strength Hydrogen Peroxide 6% or greater for 20 minutes is probably a safe bet. Ammonia based products are suggested for some diseases as well.
