Is this hawksbeard and ground mallow? If so they should both be edible right? And if edible what percentage is a safe percentage in their diet. Both have begun to grow all over my front yard. I don't know what the first one is. It almost looks like mint, but it's not.

The second one might be prickly lettuce or hawksbeard - edible.

Yvonne is right: It's not mallow and it also doesn't look like Creeping Charlie, either.

I'm from south Louisiana. I will be checking the root systems tomorrow because I know mallow makes a deep taproot and ground ivy has a spread shallow root system. I don't recall noticing flowers :/ . I'll post some more pictures tomorrow

If you have a smartphone, download this app and send them the pictures.

Give information such as where you live and they'll email you back what the plant is.

No I'm having trouble downloading the app. And what makes it more confusing is that the root system is a mix of taproots and spreading rootsImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1413777019.600251.jpg
