Hi, I was wondering if anyone can tell me what kind of tortoise this is, we rescued it from a busy highway w mowing going on on both sides. I need to find a safe place for it but I want the best habitat so I need to identify it. Thanks for your help

Ok….not many takers. Are you located in Kansas?

Looks like a very colorful Three-Toed Box Turtle

but….if not Three Toed, sure looks like a Boxie!

Yes I'm in Kansas. I've seen alot of box turtles but none this colorful so I wasn't sure of its kind. It does only have 3 toes on the hind feet though, thank you for the info

Best place for it is where you found it. It needs to go back into the wild but it has to be in the territory it was found. Place it off the road a way and of course make sure the mowing has been finished.
Of course this is if its native to your state.
