Maimed Tortoise Rescue

While we were out of town our dog caught and maimed a hermanns tortoise. Thankfully no punctures found, several gnawing wounds to edges of carapace which were rinsed with saline.

Multiple posts in various social media and pet finders have come up empty which led me to believe he possibly was sadly released into the wild.

I was wondering if anyone would be able to help identify western versus eastern

•The underneath/plastron isn’t a full running solid bands of black

•does appear to have the keyhole marking

•lacks the yellow cheek markings

I’m still reading and working on better substrate and a suitable habitat

Open to suggestions of any of the above issues

Thank you for your time

It's a male. I would keep the wound clean and put Neosporin on it. However I am not an expert. @Yvonne G should be able to help you. Welcome to the forum.
