Hi guys,

I'm glad this topic has come up. We left ours outside one night when It rained and I felt slightly uneasy about this but me partner seemed to think it was ok as we have a porch part of he's outside run with straw in that he can hide in and the other end a log with straw that he can hide in that to. I worry as this is England and temp even in summer can be not so great. I hear they can't tolerate damp and cold weather so this makes me think I should bring Sheldon in at night. Unless I know it's going to be a very hot night.

Hi, I moved your thread so it won't get lost in the thread. You def. want to avoid cold and wet, those are bad for a tortoise. With it being england, I imagine it gets cold at night, I would prob bring it in at night, if it were mine.

Most people leave Horsfields out in England as long as it doesn't drop below 5 and is sunny the next morning, or if it's going to be dull and rainy, 10. They are pretty hardy.

I recently asked this and dmmj (thanks again!) said- "Your russian can stay out in the rain, wet is not a concern unless they get cold, and you don't want a spoiled russian like I had." :D
Great enclosure, by the way. Where did you get the half log? I'd love one of those!

OK. What temp do you think I should bring him in when it starts to get cold? My partner found it when he was cutting logs, he found one for our inside in run to. I was worried that the run was so small. Thanks.

I would suggest adding a little house to the enclosure for him to go into when it rains. This way he can stay dry. My Russians live outside 24/7, but they have a slightly raised box that they can go into when it rains. (If it's warm outside when it's raining, they love to go stomping around in the rain though!) Hope that was helpful for you. :) (Love your enclosure too!)

Hi kimber, at the other of the run he has a cover over the end so he would be able to keep dry. Horsfield. Which has straw in there. My partner has since planted a plant in to which he was munching on. I will see he can build a little something for sheldon to.
Yellow turtle. OK that sound fair enough. Thanks for the lists. Well he doesn't eat that much in 20 mins and from what we can worked out after he has woken up he will eat for a bit. Then have a nibble on bits later on..
