My new tortoise, I got him on June 20, stopped eating and still hasn't pooped. He/she was eating greens super well every day until today. It just didn't eat anything today. Usually after he soaks I'll put him in the food dish and he'll have a few bites but today, nothing and nothing throughout the rest of the day either. Also, from what I'm aware of he still hasn't pooped. I know there was no poop during his daily soaks but maybe there's poop hiding in the cage somewhere?? I'm really worried about the little tort right now, please help.

Generally speaking, unless his core temperature isn’t at 80f and slightly above, tortoises aren’t digesting their food properly. That having been said, some tortoises can go a bit of time without going if they arent full or eating enough as well.

If none of those are issues then maybe he ate something that is a blockage.

I would give it some more time, feed him a bit more, raise the nighttime temp and soak him. If nothing happens in three or four more days, then we need to look deeper.

I learned a trick at my tortoise's expense. . . I put a tortoise in a soaking tub then went away, got busy, and forgot about him. SEVERAL hours later I remembered and when I went back he was in the poopiest, dirtiest water ever!!!

So now whenever I have a tortoise that seems to be 'backed up' I put him into a tub he can't get out of, add enough water to come up to the middle of his sides and go away. Scrambling around, trying to escape gets things moving and never fails to work! Just watch occasionally to make sure he's not getting into trouble.

Obviously when doing this on purpose, keep the water warm!
